Well, not quite, maybe, but for international shopping, yes. Christmas items are coming to my shop all this week! Please note that international orders take 4-10 days to arrive, and that once Friday, December 9th, rolls around Royal Mail will not promise delivery by Christmas. I will still ship after that, but I cannot guarantee delivery either, obviously! So, please shop early--don't worry, there are lots of non-Christmasey things to look at, too!And as always, I'm happy to take commissions and I will shorten or lengthen existing items at no extra charge. :)

These past couple weeks I have been planning and making Blythe Necklaces for BlytheConUK in London. I can't believe it's just a month away now--wow! I'm still not even sure how many girls to bring--3 for sure, but maybe more... And Jim & I are still planning what to do on our other days...the Tower of London for sure...we didn't get there last trip. And maybe some shopping, as I didn't hit a few stores last time due to very sore feet. I need to plan better this time! Of course we'll head back to the British Museum. I think we'll also try to get to the Templar Church, and...and..I'm not sure! At least I've got my raffle pledge done and ready to mail! :)

It's official! My shops at Etsy are empty. I haven't yet moved everything into my ArtFire shop, but I'm getting there. :) So--if you are looking for something you faved or liked at either Bebopgirl1969Jewelry or Planet Blythe, it either is or will be at my ArtFire shop now--everything is under the name Bebopgirl1969Jewelry, all in one shop.

I want to reiterate that I have nothing against the sellers at Etsy; I will still shop there. I have no desire to punish the Sellers.

Of course, Etsy responded to that, too, by making it impossible for Sellers to see Buyers feedback. Real helpful (sarcasm!).

Then there are all the mutings at the forums, the changes that don't need to be made (ie all the Social features), and the ignoring of all the changes that do need to be made (a DECENT search function, anyone?). All the ways to lead people out of shops. The mass amount of info that does not help me shop--or sell. All the ignoring of sellers' concerns...it all got to be too much for me. I just didn't want to be part of it.

I don't want this to turn into a debate--I just wanted to explain why I moved from a site where I had decent success to another place where I am also having decent success (and why I didn't decide to be at both places).

*Does anyone know how to get links to be clickable here? When I use the link button, nothing shows up in my post...??? And when I post a link as copied from the net, it isn't clickable...

So, awhile back, at my Etsy shop, I sold a necklace to the costume department of Wizards of Waverly Place. And today I found out from family back home that it was indeed worn, in the first episode of the new season in the States! How excited am I? :)
(EDIT: Just found out that the character Harper is the one who wore it!)

New Buddha Necklaces

There are new Buddha designs in my ArtFire shop this week! As always, when you buy one of these necklaces I will donate $6 from the purchase price to the Red Cross Japan Tsunami Relief fund. I plan to do this until at least the end of the year, at which point the necklaces will morph from Buddhas for Japan into Buddhas for Disaster Relief, to help aid victims of disasters worldwide. In other words, this section is here to stay!

I am still searching for more natural colored Buddha beads, but at the moment brights seem to be all the rage. If you prefer more muted colors, be assured I am trying to find some!

For some of my necklaces, like this one, I take inspiration from the bright, colorful world of Japanese anime. I love putting different colors together in happy, bright combos.

I love wearing lots of color, but I know some people find it a little intimidating. There's no reason to be afraid of lots of color--it can be amazingly versatile. This necklace, for instance, would look great with yellow or blue, of course, but would also add a pop of color to an all black outfit, or a summery white outfit.

As always with my Buddha designs, $6 goes to the Red Cross to help Japan.

The Etsy Blahs?

I don't know what has been up with me since the New Year, but I just cannot seem to work up any enthusiasm for my etsy shops. At first I just thought it was a creative block thing--that I needed a break from crafting--but I don't think that's it. I do like etsy in many respects, but then part of me just can't be bothered.

There are the forums, which just make me crazy, so much so that I find I can't stand visiting them for even the most basic questions. I don't really get the feeling that there is a big group of encouraging fellow crafters there. Blah.

Then there is the over-saturation of some categories, which unfortunately for me includes jewelry. Maybe that's the biggest problem--I just don't feel like anything is being seen, and so the desire to make new things to list is just evaporating. I mean, even tho the listing and selling fees are very reasonable, if everything I list is just getting swallowed up in all the other jewelry, it's not very useful.

Then there is the whole aesthetic thing. It's pretty clear that etsy favors a certain look, a certain type of crafty style, and it isn't what I do or favor, so I'm kind of out of the loop there, too.

So--is this just a blip, something I'll get over? I'm not planning on killing off either of my shops yet, but I sure wish I could find an alternative site to at least try. Folksy isn't going to be it--those square photos aren't the greatest way to show off necklaces. Artfire is OK but as I don't want to commit the money for a non-free shop, my options there are quite limited as well. DaWanda really didn't do it for me, either.

I should probably try to sell some stuff locally--investigate some local shops and all--maybe that's the answer? I don't know--I do worry about price points if I do that.

Aaaaaaaaargh! Any helpful suggestions are welcome!

So, I am *thinking* of scaling back my Etsy shop in the new year, and either starting an independent page/shop somewhere or trying another craft selling site. I do have some listings at Artfire, but haven't had any sales there (decent views, tho). This may be because I'm using the free version--only 12 listings allowed, can't edit your shop as much, etc. I have looked at Dawanda, but it didn't seem right for me. I tried and didn't like Folksy. Used E-bay ages ago, not thrilled with the percentage they take. So--does anyone have any words of wisdom for me, or know of some places that I should check out? Does anyone use the paid version of Artfire? Thoughts on it?

New Style Russian Doll Necklace!

Yay! A totally new Russian Doll design is in the shop! This time I have strung a large (1 3/4") wooden matryoshka doll on a 24" necklace (the drop feature, which includes the doll as well as a blue Czech glass flower, is an extra 2 1/2"). The sweet doll is blonde, dressed in blue and white (the back of her dress has a flower on it, as on the front). I have chosen a mixture of yellow beads--flowers, chips, a heart, and more--plus a pretty blue seed bead mix to make up the body of this fun necklace.

If you sell your jewelry (or clothing or knitted items) designs, do you also keep (or specifically design) pieces for yourself? I definitely do; for one thing, I made my own jewelry for a long time before I began selling it, and for another thing, it seems to make good sense. I mean, if you're wearing something, you're increasing the chance that someone will see it and like it and then you can mention your shop to them...
Every once in awhile, too, I have to admit, I get some beads in that I just love so much I just keep them. These Russian doll beads I actually ordered for myself, along with some neon orange and sky blue ones. If I get good feedback on the neons, I will order more and design some necklaces for my shops...

So, I'm seeing lots of Russian doll designs in the Fall Fashion previews--woo-hoo! But here's what I'm finding quite crazy: the prices! Just yesterday I saw that a big design studio is selling the same wooden beads I use in my designs--not in a design of their own, but just hanging on a kilt pin (the same way I bought many of mine) for £15 (about $25--you can get an entire necklace at my shop for less than that with some designs!)! Now, that is an insane price to pay--I paid about £3 (about $5) for most of mine, and believe me, I didn't buy them in the kind of bulk that a big studio would. Crazy!
At the same time, I see one or two beads being used in necklaces for huge money, as well.

All I'm saying is--I know that when something becomes the "must have" fashion thing; when it becomes a huge trend--then the big fashion houses and the high street stores get big money for things. But please, please look a little harder and you can find really unique items for much better prices. And hey, in the case of my Russian doll necklaces, I may not be the head of a fashion house in Paris or Milan, but my pieces are one of a kind and they are hand designed!

On June 16th, UPS delivered a box, from Elle magazine (USA edition), with 2 of my Russian doll necklaces! Why, you may wonder?Well, they asked me a few months back to send them for a feature on Russian dolls in fashion. Now, I still don't know if they made it into the magazine (I know they haven't as of the July issue, but there also hasn't been a Russian doll feature yet!). So, I'll be excited to find out!It's funny, too...about 3 weeks before that I received another UPS package from Elle, filled with Russian doll rings and earrings by another artists (denimdays --very nice pieces!). Not only were they not mine, but she lives in Australia! But I sent hers on and she's gotten them back today, too. And she was kind enough to let me keep a ring! Yay!So here's hoping we both got into Elle magazine!

I really need to do more with my Blythe shop. I don't know what it is, but I am just so scattered lately...I have all these ideas in my head, but I just can't sit still long enough to finish (or sometimes even start) things.

I really like my Beautiful Blythe Eye ornaments, for instance, and I should make more, and in more sizes. And I need to make some more clothes--for my own girls as well as the shop!

So...here's hoping I can get myself less scattered, soon!

I tried Folksy--but I really didn't care for it--the square photos and having to schmooze at the forum in order to get karma or whatever at your store. I also signed up for DaWanda but wasn't too excited about them. Anyone know of any other great sites that I'm missing?
